SoFi Stadium Achieves Sustainable Management Standards, Making It One of Only Three NFL Stadiums To Achieve Voluntary Standard
INGLEWOOD, CA (April 21, 2025) - SoFi Stadium, home to the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers, has met the requirements of the ISO 20121:2012 Event Sustainability Management System for the second time, making it one of only three NFL stadiums to achieve this voluntary standard. Originally certified in 2022, this achievement recognizes SoFi Stadium's ongoing commitment to managing the environmental, economic, and social impacts of its events through a process of data tracking, obstacle identification, and continuous improvement in sustainability. With this achievement, SoFi Stadium will continue to apply this management framework to upcoming NFL games, concerts, and mega-events including the 2026 FIFA World Cup and 2027 NFL Super Bowl.
“SoFi Stadium is committed to sustainable operations across the 300-acre Hollywood Park campus,” said Otto Benedict, SVP of Facilities and Campus Operations, SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park. “We have maintained our efforts to further minimize our environmental impact, and will continue to work with Honeycomb Strategies to improve efficiencies.”
In collaboration with Honeycomb Strategies since 2020, SoFi Stadium has made notable strides in key areas such as resource efficiency, sustainable sourcing, stakeholder engagement, employee training, and enhanced awareness, monitoring, and reporting. This progress supports their ISO 20121:2012 achievement, a voluntary global benchmark for event sustainability management. This standard necessitates a framework for ongoing improvement, involving the implementation, monitoring, and adjustment of practices to address noncompliance and achieve increasingly higher levels of sustainability.
Honeycomb Strategies, a woman-owned sustainability consulting firm specializing in the sport and event industry, has been instrumental in developing the strategy and compliance with ISO framework for SoFi Stadium.
"The ISO 20121 framework for sustainable event management has been instrumental in guiding and focusing sustainability efforts at SoFi Stadium and Hollywood Park as the landscape for development, organizational priorities, and event hosting duties are continually evolving,” said Eric Shaphran, Sustainability Manager, Honeycomb Strategies. “Having this resource in place has made it easier for internal leaders to successfully intertwine projects and dozens of sustainability goals."
